Narrative Summary

Our new and improved Employment Readiness program prepares participants for joining the workplace for the first time or re-entering the workplace by providing essential life skills, employability certifications, and workplace skills and ethics.
Each applicant will complete an intake interview to determine the training path required, whether it is level 1, 2, or all 3 levels of preparation for the workplace.
Each level is 4 weeks of in-class training with the opportunity to complete an 8-week work placement in the career field of their choice [placement requires successful completion of Level 3].

Admission Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Complete Academic Assessment
  • Must be committed to self-improvement

Course Outline

Major Topics include:

Level 1 Essential Life Skills:
Personal Budgeting, Personality Dimensions, Computer Skills, and SMART Goals
Level 2 Career Exploration:
First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, Safe Food Handling, WHMIS, Basic Ecology, Career Exploration and Interviews, Self Care, and Nutrition Basics
Level 3 Preparing for the Workplace:
Interviewing Skills, Resume/Cover Letter, Dressing for Success, Stress Management, Customer Service, and Social Media/Marketing

Hours and Duration

  • September 27 – December 17
  • Twenty [20] week program, Monday to Friday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (In class instruction)

Canada currently faces a critical shortage of skilled workers. Skilled tradespeople will be increasingly in demand because of the rapid pace of technological changes and as current workers in the field begin to retire. According to the Working in Canada Report (Government of Canada), employment opportunities for licensed welders will be steady.

Graduates of this program will find a range of employment opportunities through welder apprenticeship programs, as well as positions associated with manufacturing and fabricating, automotive, heavy equipment production, automation, and construction. Self-employment or working in the construction oil industry are also viable options upon graduation.
