Meet Tracy Martin

Meet Tracy Martin, a shining example of success in our Accounting Essentials Program here at OSTTC. As future students embark on their educational journey, it is important to look back at her determination and time management, as similar challenges arise for all students.

Tracy's journey began with a clear vision – to complete the program at all costs. The Accounting Essentials Program was offered in a 16-week condensed format, partnered with Fanshawe College. Tracy encountered struggles along the way and had to learn how to manage her time with home responsibilities and a heavy course load. The challenge not only helped her confidence but gave her the drive to pursue more. Tracey remarked, “I will pursue the Bookkeeping certificate for the coming year. I know that I will keep taking courses as my confidence keeps growing.”

The Accounting Essentials Program also helped Tracy strive for her future goals, as she mentioned “It has become the foundation of those future programs and the foundation of my self-confidence to pursue those careers”. Enrolling in OSTTC’s essential and introductory programs is a great pathway into higher education and helps students achieve career goals.

After being out of school for an extended period of time, starting a new program can be daunting to most. This holds true for Tracy, as well. Her first day of class was over 10 years from the last time she was in a classroom setting. There were certain points where she had self-doubt, but she stated “Once I changed my mindset and the way I learned the material and felt I retained or learned something, that little bit of achievement drove me to strive for more”. It is important to understand that accomplishments and self-recognition can encourage students to achieve the next step. Focusing on each individual task can feel more attainable, and allow students to complete a program successfully. OSTTC’s Student Services offer support for students for the duration of their program and beyond.

Tracy's story extends past the academic realm. As a parent juggling school and family, she faced the daily challenge of maintaining equilibrium. Late-night study sessions became a routine and a testament to Tracy's determination to excel academically while fulfilling her roles at home. This was an eye-opening experience, as she learned more about herself and what she was capable of. This realization opened the door to further opportunities after completing the program.

Tracy's ability to seamlessly integrate her educational pursuits with family life is proof of her resilience and organizational prowess. Her story serves as an inspiration to future students who may face similar challenges, proving that with dedication and resilience, success is not only achievable but also transformative.

Looking forward, Tracy envisions a future as a bookkeeper, channelling her passion for numbers into a fulfilling career. Tracy's success is not an exception; it is evidence of the potential within each student who chooses to embark on the journey of education.

Tracy shared some advice upon completion of the program, “if it is something that truly interests you, or if it’s something that you require to get where you want in a career or life, then by all means do it. When you do enroll, ensure that you have a support group or system, because that support will make all the difference in your outcome. They will make you or break you, I can promise you that. Be prepared to work hard and have both downfalls and successes. Ask for help, ask lots of questions, and don’t forget to ask for more help until you feel that you understand it. There’s no better feeling when you finally understand something. Good luck and enjoy the course.”

OSTTC is proud of Tracy’s accomplishments throughout her time here, and we wish her much success in her future endeavours!
