Skilled trades have long been a male-dominated industry, but that’s changing. More women are stepping into these careers, proving they belong and bringing their skills, passion, and resilience to the field.
At Ogwehoweh Skills and Trades Training Centre (OSTTC), we’re proud to support women—especially Indigenous women—who are breaking barriers and building successful futures in the trades.
There’s never been a better time to enter the trades. Jobs are in high demand, the pay is competitive, and the work is hands-on and rewarding. For many women, it’s a chance to build their careers while building their communities.
BUT even with progress, women in trades still face challenges…
Gender Stereotypes: Trades have been seen as "men’s work" for years, but that’s changing. Women are proving they have the skills to succeed.
Finding the Right Training: Not all programs understand the unique experiences of Indigenous learners.
Workplace Inclusion: Some work environments still need to catch up when it comes to welcoming and supporting women in the trades.
We’re here to help women overcome these challenges with:
✔️ Culturally Inclusive Training: Learning that includes Indigenous values, traditions, and teachings.
✔️ Mentorship & Role Models: Connecting women with others who have paved the way.
✔️ Financial Support: Scholarships and funding options to help make training more accessible.
✔️ Career Placement: Helping graduates find apprenticeships and job opportunities.
Many women have launched successful careers through OSTTC, and their stories are truly inspiring. Check out these journeys:
